Team Philippines Showcases World‑Class Talent at WCOPA in Las Vegas, Calls for Community Support

LAS VEGAS — Team Philippines is once again taking the global stage at the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA), known internationally as the “Talent Olympics,” bringing a slate of world‑class performers to Las Vegas and reaffirming the country’s reputation for excellence in the performing arts.

The delegation, led by Philippine National Director Gerry Mercado and Creative Director Annie Mercado, features vocalists, dancers, actors, instrumentalists and multidisciplinary performers competing for medals, industry attention and international visibility. Mercado, who has headed the Philippine team since 2013, said the delegation continues to raise the bar each year, driven by discipline, artistry and a deep sense of Filipino pride.

WCOPA, held at Westgate Las Vegas, is currently underway, with Finals scheduled for Monday, July 20.

The event draws performers from dozens of countries. For Filipino competitors, the competition carries significance beyond trophies, serving as an opportunity to represent millions of Filipinos worldwide who take pride in seeing their kababayan excel on an international stage.

As the delegation advances through the competition, Team Philippines is appealing for logistical support from the Filipino‑American community and institutions in Nevada. Organizers say assistance—from transportation and meals to local hospitality, attendance at live showcases, and digital amplification—helps sustain the delegation’s momentum during the high‑pressure competition week.

“The Filipino talent is the Philippines’ greatest natural resource. And they deserve to be on the world stage. And we are doing that with very limited resources.” Mercado said. “We will really appreciate the help and support you can extend during our stay”.

Team officials also called for broader institutional backing, noting that sustained support from cultural organizations, businesses and civic groups would help elevate Filipino performers and expand the Philippines’ visibility in global arts arenas.
