PANDANGO SA ILAW MOVES THE HERITAGE NIGHT CROWD AS LAS VEGAS FILIPINOS HONOR CULTURE AND THE PHILIPPINE FLAG



The #HeritageNight Gala at the Santa Fe Station Hotel & Casino unfolded last night as a vibrant celebration of Filipino cultural identity, with one of the evening’s most moving performances—Pandango sa Ilaw—beautifully echoing the historical significance and symbolism of the Philippine flag.



A Cultural Performance That Reflected Heritage and Symbolism


Pandango sa Ilaw, performed with its signature balancing of softly glowing lights, captivated the audience not as the night’s centerpiece but as a poignant cultural tribute. The dancers’ graceful movements, illuminated by candlelight, mirrored the warmth, resilience, and spirit embodied in the colors of the Philippine flag displayed behind them.


The visual harmony between the dance and the flag created a powerful moment of cultural reverence—showing how traditional art forms continue to honor the nation’s history and identity. The performance served as a reminder that Filipino heritage is not only preserved through stories and symbols, but also through movement, rhythm, and community expression.


A Gala Dedicated to Honoring the Flag


The entire event was designed to pay tribute to the ongoing national observance of Philippine Flag Days, celebrated from May 28 to June 12. This commemorative period honors the flag’s legacy—from its first victorious display during the Battle of Alapan in Cavite to its historic unfurling in Kawit, Cavite during the proclamation of independence in 1898.


The Cavite Association of Nevada, representing the province where these milestones took place, placed the flag’s origins at the heart of the program. A special video presentation by PHLV Radio highlighted the flag’s colors—blue for peace and justice, red for valor, white for purity—and the sun and stars symbolizing unity across the archipelago.


Leadership and Community Presence


Filipino families in Nevada filled the ballroom for this annual celebration organized by the Cavite Association of Nevada. This year’s keynote address was delivered by Philippine Secretary of Justice Fredderick A. Vida, who emphasized the importance of cultural preservation and the responsibility of Filipinos abroad to honor national symbols and heritage.



As the community continues its celebration of Filipino identity and freedom, several major events are scheduled.


Saturday, June 6, 2026 • 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Hosted at Boulevard Mall and Fil-Am Central, this all-day celebration features:


• Parade inside Boulevard Mall (10:00 AM kickoff in front of the Fil-Am Museum)

• Motorcade around key Las Vegas thoroughfares (11:00 AM start)

• Free food, cultural entertainment, and community festivities beginning at noon

• Open to all families and friends celebrating Filipino heritage



Another major celebration is scheduled for June 13, hosted by the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) Nevada Chapter, continuing the community’s month‑long tribute to Filipino culture, history, and unity.
