LAS VEGAS — In a historic first for the Silver State, Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo honored nine distinguished Filipino American leaders during the inaugural Filipino Trailblazer Recognition Ceremony held Monday at the Nevada State Building in Las Vegas.

The event, organized by the Governor’s Office for New Americans (ONA) and the Governor’s Southern Nevada Outreach Director Sonny Vinuya, recognized individuals whose contributions have helped shape Nevada through leadership, public service, education, healthcare, media, law, and community advocacy.

Held at 1 State of Nevada Way, home to the Southern Nevada office of the Governor, and a central hub of the State of Nevada campus, the ceremony highlighted the achievements and lasting impact of Filipino Americans across the state.

The inaugural honorees included:

Philippine Honorary Consul Amie Belmonte, Community leader Gloria Caoile, Broadcaster and meteorologist Tedd Florendo, Filipino media advocate and PHLV Radio President Johann Sayson, UNLV School of Nursing Dean Dr. Sigrid Barrett, Former Nevada State Board of Nursing President and UNLV Associate Professor Dr. Rhigel Jay Tan, Clark County School District Superintendent Jhone Ebert, Judge Cedric Kerns, and North Las Vegas City Manager Micaela Moore.

The honorees were recognized not only for their professional accomplishments but also for their efforts to create lasting opportunities for future generations of Filipino Americans in Nevada.

The recognition ceremony coincides with the celebration of Filipino American History Month, observed nationally each October to commemorate the history, contributions, and achievements of Filipino Americans in the United States. Nevada has also proclaimed October as Filipino American History Month, aligning the state's observance with the national recognition.

The event underscored the growing influence of Filipino Americans in Nevada, where community leaders continue to make significant contributions across government, education, healthcare, business, media, and civic life.

Organizers said the inaugural recognition ceremony marks the beginning of what is expected to become an annual tradition celebrating Filipino excellence and leadership throughout Nevada.
